Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. Because of their fear of stress, the parents didn't want to see performing before turning 18. Perry was shy in high-school and was not a performer. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved into New York in search of TV roles. Perry was able to land small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, homesickness brought her back to California for theater roles. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie alongside her in 2015. Perry was in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in the role of a political thriller Scandal alongside her father. Also, she was cast on The CBS show The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. She was cast in the role through an open audition despite having a connection to the role.
